just installed and restored PS3 no longer stutters. should have been replaced long ago. seems a bit noisy compared to another hard drive, is that bad/good, is that normal? UPDATE August 17th: Stars removed, PS3 is working fine but not even a month later, not sure now, I think the disc is already going bad (or maybe it was never good to begin with). The PS3 worked fine but had trouble restoring the filesystem or rebuilding the database, it just seems to freeze and nothing happens. Initially, it made a lot of noise during the format/restore process. From time to time the data transfer indicator on the external device would stop and the drive would make noise for a long time, although this may be due to the PS3's backup utility. Maybe it would be possible to get a replacement, I think there is a 1 year guarantee? Not that I wanted to go through the whole process again, although it was relatively easy. UPDATE Next day: maybe I said too soon the drive is ok, rebooted again in insecure mode and it said the hard drive was corrupt (problem from playing defi and randomly freezes all the time), the recovery ran fine and after that safe mode seemed to work fine. So if your PS3 freezes and ever asks you to restore the file system, I would suggest doing that instead of skipping a circle (which I usually did). It looks like this caused Safe Mode to hang.
