Great manhole cover

Great manhole cover! I'm glad I ordered it as it was originally on the fence. It's very well constructed in terms of material, so now I understand why it costs so much. My sump was originally covered with a piece of wood sealed with silicone caulk, so I didn't have access to check the pump. At one point my pump failed and I had a small flood in my basement. Luckily I was able to catch it before it spread too far and figured I needed a way to access and test the pumps and vent the radon. This dome was the solution. The hole I had was non-standard, just over 16 inches in diameter, but this cover fitted it nicely. I was able to get 1-1/2" pipe through a precut bilge for the bilge pumps and a 3" threaded fitting for the radon pipe. There is a rubber grommet for the pallet drain pipe, but I couldn't insert it into the hole with the pipe. You may need to drill a slightly larger hole, but I just used clear silicone caulk to seal it. I had to use a couple of elbows on the radon tube as the dome was slightly taller than my existing radon tube. I didn't want to drill into the sides of the dome as I feel it would be easier to service or remove from the lid. I then used a hole saw to drill a 2" hole for the included rubber wire insert. Since I installed 2 pumps I had to drill two holes in the insert, but that was easy enough to do. I still have to bolt the bottom , but now everything is covered with silicone. One minus: threaded plugs with screws can fall out. I had a fall putting on the access side cover, but luckily it didn't hit the hole. Be careful with it, and maybe next time I will , if I remove the access panel put some tape to hold the connectors in place a little better, I see the point in having them interchangeable but they need better protection so you don't lose them in the pit.

Pros
  • Robust construction
Cons
  • Concealable
