Review on NUTRO Wholesome Essentials Dry Cat Food - Salmon and Brown Rice Recipe by Andrea Young

I don't know why Nutro discontinued the Max Cat line but I tried it as a replacement. Unfortunately, the pieces have a different shape than Max Cat dry food and my cats don't like it that much. Max Cat had a thin, round cat-faced piece that my cats loved to nibble on. This Wholesome Essentials has a thicker piece shaped like a large orzo paste. I have some leftover Max Cat and if I mix it with Wholesome Essentials my cats will eat the Wholesome Essentials pieces and leave them in the bowl. But they will eat the skinnier Max Cat. I suppose Max Cat has a nicer crunch. But I don't claim to be able to read a cat's mind! Update: I had to stop feeding my wild animals who have always adored Cat Max. After switching to useful essentials, something in him made one of the savages who wouldn't let me get near him constantly itching, so much that his whole throat was scratched. I had to switch to Iams. Very disappointed that the Max Cat has been discontinued. I would feed them this forever. Luckily, the baby with the scratched neck recovered. Also, I noticed that the new food was a bit overpriced. Max Cat came in 16lb bags which were cheaper than Wholesome Essentials 14lb bags.
