I only used half of the smallest bottle. So actually I have two methods. I have no knowledge of hair. I've never dyed my hair at home before. I was basically just following instructions. I washed my hair very well with a clarifying shampoo. Dry with a hair dryer. I applied the product with gloves and hands and ran my fingers through my hair. After using a fine tooth comb and brushing it very well so that my hair was evenly coated. Put on a plastic shower cap and watch TV for about half an hour/40 minutes. Be warned, the formaldehyde in the product (which actually makes it work) will burn your eyes. Keep windows open, use mask if necessary.
