Review on Wi-Fi router ASUS RT-AC66U, black by Athit Janhiran ᠌

Revainrating 5 out of 5

The ratio of price and quality is very pleasing, I will repeat the purchase.

At home, the 2.4 range is packed to capacity with neighbors. The previous router from Mikrotik in such conditions began to work poorly. As a solution to the problem, I decided to switch to 5 GHz with support for the ac standard. As a result, I bought a kit: ASUS RT-AC66U, for an ASUS PCE-AC68 stationary computer, for an ASUS USB-AC56 laptop. The 68th did not buy, because I need a stupid router. At 5 GHz, in addition to two computers, a Blackberry phone, a son's iPhone and a Google Nexus tablet are connected. Other family members' old android devices and printer are sitting at 2.4GHz. TVs, nas, playstations, android boxes are wired. There are about 12 devices in total. As a result, only two 5 GHz networks are visible in the area, mine and my neighbor :) the range is free :) Wi-Fi ac speed exceeds the speed provided by the ISP by a margin :) Connected to the provider via PPPoE 100 Mbps. I tested the speed of downloading large files from the provider's internal FTP resources - the router does not cut the speed, I get about 95 Mbps. I was pleased with the operation of the device at 2.4 GHz, the speed began to correspond to n, which was not observed on Mikrotik. Compared to previous routers, its signal is really weak, but in the real conditions of an apartment it does not drop below two sticks anywhere and the speed of work does not drop. In any case, a computer with ASUS PCE-AC68, located through a concrete wall, pumps at maximum speed. Overall: happy with everything. The speed is great. DAmazon is working. Open VPN clients cling. I'm not going to install custom firmware, the standard one is fine.

Pros
  • Network speed. Two ranges. Ease of setup.
Cons
  • I sealed the LEDs with opaque tape :) The signal in the range of 2.4 is weak. Glitchy web interface.
