Review on Optimized for SEO: AmazonBasics Adventure Laptop Backpack - Accommodates Laptops up to 17-Inches by Whitney Starvaggi

Excellent bag structure, plenty of space, comfortable and durable

Update: 2 years later I find this backpack has a bad reputation: bad for traveling but actually very good for everyday use at work, technology or school. This is my conclusion after several long transcontinental journeys, hence I'm deducting 2 stars considering it's marketed as a holdall. Why? The layout of the storage space is not travel-friendly. The two "main" compartments closest to the back are thin and not suitable for carrying a large volume unless they are square and flat. They are suitable for a laptop, tablet, books or laptops, but since the bag doesn't have a hard back panel, anything irregularly shaped will tend to dig into your back or distort the shape of the bag. Tightly folded clothing can work, but this is far from ideal. The natural place for bulky items is a compartment further, which is nominally smaller but expands more. As the bag fills up for travel, the weight is placed far away from your back, making it increasingly uncomfortable. Once past the 10-15lb (5-7kg) mark you can't carry the bag much longer before the straps start to cut in and the chest strap only helps a lot. If you carry this load for several hours, you get severe back pain (personal experience). The water bottle also tends to move backwards, making center of gravity problems worse. For everyday use, however, this backpack has LOTS of pockets and compartments that make it easy to organize your gadgets, and weight isn't that much of an issue. The laptop padding doesn't work very well on the *bottom* either - it's worth putting a small piece of Styrofoam in there for extra protection - but unless you're carrying your bag fully loaded, it's not that much. deal with it. All in all it's fine as long as you're not trying to fit a bunch of stuff in it. For travel purposes, this is roughly the maximum allowable size for a "personal item" on airplanes, and it can fit under the seat in front of the passenger. She. It fits quite a lot - enough for at least a day trip (laptop, electronics, toiletries and a change of clothes or two). I never had to consider this bag as hand luggage, although as always, wheeled bags are usually checked at the gate. For the price I think the durability is good. After quite a bit of (ab)use over the past two years, the fabric and zippers have held up, although one shoulder strap is starting to tear a bit.

Pros
  • There's something about it
Cons
  • Minor flaws
