I know it keeps mealworms away. It also holds water. The rim also extends if you want two open cymbals or want to put it on the on-air side. It's pretty small. 4 inches long, 2 inches wide and 1 inch high. This makes each panel about 2 inches with no border, so it's for something that can get in there. I thought my tree frogs would want to try something other than crickets, but they didn't even taste what I put in it. I even thought the hamster would happily eat the live protein from it, but it could eat the plastic. So not sure who it's perfect for, maybe lizards.
