Autel Evo II Pro Review: (I've updated this review after owning it for about 2 weeks on 6/30/2020) It's not quite a production-ready fancy plane with some major flaws that aren't even were worked out. But it has an absolutely amazing camera and gimbal! What a dichotomy, what a shame! I think many of the bugs that the plane has can cause many Evo II to crash and break the amazing cameras and gimbals. Some peculiarities: 1. It flies in hoarse jerks, as if there were unprecedented obstacles when there weren't any. And you can disable all visual sensors, but this behavior will continue. In fact, I've seen many examples proving that the visual sensor cameras are actually still on even though you've turned them all off. 2. The range is not as good as DJI drones, on average I would say about half. Also, within 10 seconds of the video clipping, you lose contact with the plane and have to rely on it returning home (which luckily has worked well so far). 3. Lots of little things make it feel like this is the very first Autel drone (it isn't). The file counter is reset every time the drone is restarted, so all your files will have the same number every day or every restart, starting with 0001. This is unforgivable! In addition, many other settings are reset on every reboot or sooner. If I turn off the vision sensor cameras, they often turn back on later in the same flight. And like I said, they've never been turned off, you can't turn them off completely. 4. The battery doesn't last much longer than the DJI Mavic 2's battery, although Autel claims much longer flight times. Extra batteries are INCREDIBLY EXPENSIVE! $220 is the best you can do for ONE battery. Shame on Autel for charging so much and openly lying about how much flight time they get (your flight time will always be under 30 minutes while they falsely claim 34-40 minutes). DJI has several models that cost about half the battery price. 5. The remote control has been equipped with a beautiful bright color display. It can view everything, including the video stream, so you don't need a phone or tablet, right? Not correct. This is not a touch screen! So you have to use the archaic UI to laboriously navigate through one setting after another with the scroll wheel, it takes forever. The remote doesn't seem to be recording any flight data either. So if you fly without a smartphone or tablet and you crash, there is no map to help you find your plane. Also about using the tablet - the clip is too small for everything but the phone, it's thin plastic, it feels like it's going to break off over time. Again compared to the Mavic 2s whose standard clips are large enough to hold an Apple iPad Mini 5 which is very convenient and much more functional than the Autel remote. 6. Each of my 6K video files starts with a black border. This isn't a big problem for the first video file, but at the 4th minute of the video it gets split into a separate file as the file sizes are huge and many computers can't handle a 3.5GB video file. . DJI also now splits videos into multiple files, but DJI video files don't lose a single frame, making it easy to rejoin them in the video editor. But remember Autel has a black border at the beginning of every video file? Well, in the second video file (cuts off after 4 minutes without notice), the black border replaces the actual missing frame Frame is missing - this should be fixed ASAP! DJI hasn't had this missing video frame issue since the Phantom 3 Pro 5 years ago. Pros: I think most of these issues can be fixed by firmware if they can find someone to quickly polish the firmware and fix these horrible quirks. from the plane. If they do, they'll have a better drone. I'll tell you some good things I've observed; The sensor system seems very advanced, better than DJI's. Not only does it constantly tell you that it's seeing those branches in front of you, it also tells you exactly how they're positioned on your display, and it does this even when you turn them off, unless you want How's constant reports close are the obstacles turn off. If you turn off the sensors before flying, they will turn back on the next time you boot up. The hardware is really very good, the orange color makes it very noticeable against almost any background, especially against a blue sky. Also, it's not a BIG plane as many say. It is slightly larger than the Mavic 2 Pro. If you put them on top of each other and look at them from above, they have the same arm span and the bodies look almost the same size from above. Also, the Autel Evo II Pro is only 6 ounces (0.17 kg) heavier than the Mavic 2 Pro β its size doesn't really matter. The camera captures incredibly detailed images and videos and performs better in low light than any drone camera with a so-called "1" sensor (those sensors are actually only 0.6" diagonal) and even outperforms DJI's big cameras by far. on her Phantom 4 Pro (a lot). The drone lands gently on the surface or on your hand, when you lower it about 2ft high you will feel the artificial intelligence kick in and make the landing perfect. To do this, it uses downward-facing visual sensors, which I used to turn off, but they're clearly still on. This drone is a bit louder than the Mavic II Pro but also a bit heavier. In general, it flies fairly smoothly. I am praying that they will release a major firmware fix very very soon, I want to keep the Autel Evo II Pro for its camera, I really like the 6K video of this camera! I need a way to really turn off the sensors for a fully manual and smooth flight, allowing the camera to do the wonders it was made to do.
