I confess that conflicting reviews made me hesitant to buy this and related cordless phones. First, let me say that this is not a higher level VOIP phone (like Cisco, Polycom, etc.). However, it's a great alternative if you don't need this type of system. I decided to try them out in a small field office with a total of 8 employees. I won't go into detail as to why we need dedicated phones, but we do. I told my boss that if I did things my way, I would take care of it and save our organization about $2,000 a year. He said do it. Our FO has amazing gigabit internet speeds, so I set up four Magicjacks, delved deep into setting up Magicjacks and our company's main VOIP service provider in the cloud admin panel, and bought a couple of RCA Unison units. Setting up the phone was quick, the sound quality is excellent on both occasions and overall I think this is exceptional value for money. The sound is not 100% compared to say a Polycom VOIP phone but I would say it is 90-95% good. These phones have many features that can only be found in premium offerings from reputable manufacturers. They're simple, work well, and while they work I expect them to last at least five years. Here's a breakdown of prices and costs depending on the problem I was trying to solve. $93 for main phone, $66 for long-distance phone. A basic system for most small offices is 4-8 phones. Let's say we need six. $93 + ($66 × 5) = $423 (one-time cost) $60 per year for a Wizard x4 = $240 per year. Assuming this system lasts 5 years, the total infrastructure and maintenance costs are $1,623.00. .If we chose our VOIP provider: Polycom phone rental: $25 per month ($300 per year) per phone and service provided service per phone at $10 per month ($120 per year). $420/year × 6 phones = $2520/year. This does not even cover the costs for the use and distribution of the minutes. So, over a five year period with our VOIP provider, the total cost for six phones and the service provided is: $12,600.00 plus the per minute usage charge during that period. As long as you have either a landline or internet with moderate speeds and no major data leaks - and you're using a wizard (or four), the RCA Unison is a very capable and very reliable option at a great price. If anything unfavorable happens to these phones, I will update this review immediately.
