Here you are paying for a smart design that allows these shelves to be "floating" shelves with no support brackets. Most often, however, they are three cheaply processed pieces of wood with rounded corners. They're SMALL, much smaller than you might imagine and definitely won't let a full sized cat sit for long, but they make good stepping and general feline furnishings. The way they're designed is smart enough to (perhaps) justify the price, but what you actually get are three very small finished pieces of wood ready to be hung on the wall. Manufacturing cost is probably less than $2 when you factor in the cost of wood and hardware. My general opinion? The optics are beautiful, the support mechanism is well thought out, but the price for three relatively small shelves is high.
