I really liked this article. I just wanted something simple for counting steps and didn't want to bother setting it up on a fancy device or all the unwanted options that come with it. I took 30 steps from my living room to the kitchen sink and counted. Device recorded 37, more than 20% discount. I then picked up my water glass, filled it with tap water, took a sip, and put the glass down โ in smooth, slow motions โ and now the device displayed 51 steps, while I'd only walked 30 before lying down or standing up, the device adds at least Add 12-15 steps, sometimes 20. With normal walking, that's more than 20% fewer. Each movement will add a large number of steps that you didn't actually take. Reaching out and picking up my phone while seated or typing on my laptop while seated adds many extra steps. I used to have a Fitbit and it was almost 100% accurate. I would be happy if this instrument was about 90% accurate. But $25 is too much for a pedometer that doesn't work and counts a few steps with the slightest movement. I estimate if you ONLY wear it for walking and not for the rest of your life, it can be about 75% accurate on continuous, steady walks. But it's definitely less than 50% accurate if you plan to wear it to track your steps throughout a typical day. If it was a cheap $10 pedometer I wouldn't be so disappointed. But for $25 I expected it to work. This is a huge divorce. I am extremely disappointed.
