This test compares Thrustmaster T-Flight Hotas X Flight Stick and Logitech Extreme 3D Pro Joystick specifically in the context of Star Citizen: Arena Commander. At this stage of Star Citizen's development, I would advise against buying joysticks or HOTAS (Hands on Throttle and Joystick). The keyboard and mouse are now more fully optimized. You can steer and dogfight more precisely with a mouse than with a stick. However, they are working to make sticks and full HOTAS settings a better option. So if you're trying to decide between Thrustmaster and Logitech at some point in the future, here are my thoughts. If we only compare joysticks, I prefer Logitech. The first thing you notice is that the base is heavier and wider. I've never knocked a Logitech off one of its legs by pulling back hard or anything. But I did it with Thrustmaster. Also, Logitech has more thumb buttons that are in a better position and click better. The stick itself is slightly smaller in diameter. What I like. Thrustmaster felt perfect in my hand, it was just a different feeling. Logitech requires more force to move the joystick, which I like now. However, I could see that in the middle of a long gaming session I might wish for a lighter touch on the throttles. Thrustmaster clearly wins here by a wide margin. However, I found I didn't need the level of control that the Thrustmaster throttle offers during dogfights. The game has a team that matches your speed with your goal. Basically like a radar-based cruise control on new cars. I've found it's easiest to trigger when I'm targeting someone and I can easily stay with them. Also, all I really need is full throttle and a point, which I can get with a voice command or a quick double-press of W or S. There are a lot of buttons on the throttle, which is good, but mine has a lot of buttons. keyboard too. Basically, unless you want something with toggle switches and dual thruster controls like the Mad Catz Saitek Pro Flight X-55 Rhino HOTAS or the Thrustmaster Hotas Warthog Joystick (and there may never be a reason to), then save $15 and choose Logitech and you'll be happy.
