I'm making jam. It takes a while to get to 220F so I wanted my phone to notify me. Another benefit would be that I could read the temperature even if the vapor was fogging up on the display. In the first part of the cooking everything seemed to work fine. About the time it hit 217F, it disconnected from Bluetooth and showed 888.8. If I took the thermometer out of the jam and let it cool down, the display and Bluetooth connection would return for a while. A thermometer so sensitive to the heat it is designed to measure is UNACCEPTABLE. But it can also be worse. I let him go limp until he registered 220F. The jam did not "spread" and failed the "frozen saucer" test. I keep making jam. At 222 I tested it with my traditional glass thermometer. The glass thermometer read about 218.
