The designers left out the physics.

Having decided that picking up the phone as soon as you wake up isn't the best way to start the day, I was hoping to use it as an alarm clock instead. I liked the idea of waking up to gradual light instead of sound and also thought (based on the description) that I could use this as a reading light at night. Here's my experience from start to finish (and when I say 'end' I mean the part where I put my watch in the donation box). The unboxing was promising. It was well packaged and included everything you need to get started. It even came with little stickers to identify the buttons, which was a nice touch. The watch was a bit larger than I expected, although it was my fault for not paying close attention to the measurements. It looks gorgeous in a simple, clean, minimalist style. I sat down to set the clock before going to bed. The instructions were a bit difficult to read (fine print) and not organized in the way I would have liked. For example, I wanted to set the time first, but the first few instructions are for adjusting the brightness of the light. No big deal - I found the time setting section and found the clock to be pretty easy to set up. The time display is a soft, pleasing orange color and a decent size. I couldn't read it without my glasses, but it was big enough and clear enough that it was easy to read with my glasses. I found it good that I could switch off the time display completely. It is absolutely necessary that I can sleep. I then placed the clock on my bedside table and began exploring its other features. This was when things went downhill. First, the buttons are on the edges of the watch, they're not very raised and they all feel the same. So it takes a lot of fiddling and guessing to find the right combination of keys and then the right key in that sentence. Secondly, the shape and weight of the watch and the location of the buttons make it impossible to adjust the settings without taking the watch off. The pressure required to press the button also pushes the watch forward. Despite these button issues, I used the watch for a few days to see if I could adapt to it. The brightest light setting wasn't bright enough for reading (at least not for 50 year old eyes - at 20 I probably would have thought it perfect). This is a warm, comfortable light for general lighting, but not bright enough for reading. I also found that the gradual light didn't wake me up, but that's not necessarily the watch's fault - it just wasn't working for me. So I tried an audible alarm instead. The clock has several interesting sounds to choose from. I chose one with birdsong (my cats said it was the best). The sound woke me up very well and was a pleasant way to wake up. However, it was difficult to find the button to turn off the alarm clock and as a result the clock fell off the bedside table. I spent a few more morning hours, but the inconsistency of the hours was the deciding factor. I had to hold the watch with one hand and fumble for the buttons with the other every time I wanted to turn on the light, set or turn off the alarm, hit the snooze button, or whatever. They also fell off easily when a cat touched them. My goal was to make waking up more pleasant, and this watch actually had the opposite effect. So donation box. It's a good idea and a nice watch, but the designers didn't take physics into account when designing the buttons.
