Review on LifeSmart Vacuum Ventilated Mattress Toppers by Jessica Prive

Revainrating 2 out of 5

Fall off after 2 days. Too small for a double mattress. Not recommended

You won't get a foam mattress in this bag without a lot of help. In my case, I was able to do this by sitting 3 people on the edge of the bag to give the mattress some compression while I zipped the opening shut. Then, while people were still sitting on the bag, I vacuumed it off. If the bag was about 10 inches longer, there would be enough room inside to zip the zippers up without assistance. It's also fairly thin and probably won't hold vacuum compression on its own for very long. For this reason my rating is rather low - great potential, poor execution of details. However, this is the largest vacuum compression bag I could find, so pretty much the only choice for compressing a mattress. You need to fold the double mattress in half first, then put it in the bag and fold it first. I've used these compression bags enough times to know they would eventually leak, so after compressing them I folded them in thirds and then wrapped the whole thing in 18" commercial grade stretch wrap. The resulting tuft can measure 3 x 1.5 x 1 foot, which is pretty good considering the uncompressed mattress is a 10 inch thick twin. This is the mattress my son uses in his college dorm and getting it up to this size for moving and storing over the summer is really important. Follow-up: The vacuum seal actually leaked and the mattress started expanding after about 48 hours. Without stretch film, this bag would be useless for storage for more than a day or two.
