Review on 🖥️ Enhanced Lenovo ThinkPad Hybrid USB-C with USB-A Dock US (40AF0135US), Inclusive of USB Type-A Adapter, ZoomSpeed HDMI Cable (with Ethernet), and AOM Starter Bundle by Jun Bak ᠌

My Lenovo laptop has USB-C connected to the power bank. Therefore, at home and in the office, I use compact USB-C dock adapters that support both Power Delivery (they are connected through the cut between the power supply and the laptop, but they themselves eat up about 8W of power), and additional USB 3.0 ports, and 1Gb Ethernet. and HDMI up to 4K@30Hz, plus an SD card reader. Thus, I simply stick one trunk from such an adapter into the laptop and automatically connect all desktop peripherals, including charging from the power supply. These adapters are made in China and get noticeably warm during operation, especially in summer. And so I foolishly decided to try this native Lenovo Hybrid USB-C dock (40AF0135EU). To my disappointment, this dock uses DisplayLink technology, which has been growing since the old versions of USB 2.0. That is, it does not use the USB-C digital video stream at all, which the laptop sends to an external USB-C monitor from the integrated video card. Instead, this dock requires a driver to be installed in the operating system, which emulates an additional virtual video card for an external monitor in software. In this case, the video stream is formed and sent via USB 3.0 to the dock by the driver in the form of regular data. Hence all the shortcomings that do not suit me: - The picture on the external monitor appears only after the OS is loaded (that is, you definitely won’t enter the BIOS without using the built-in monitor). - Since the software driver is used, the picture slows down noticeably, the number of frames drops catastrophically if you watch a video or if the graphic effect affects the entire "desktop" (stretching or moving the window). - The software driver noticeably consumes resources at large working resolutions of the external monitor. In general, if your laptop has a USB-C port, stay away from this dock and similar docks that use DisplayLink. Such a dock makes sense only for those laptops that have no other alternatives to connecting an external monitor, except for USB-A.
