The fabric seems to be cotton but somehow my hands are itchy. I've tried washing them, thinking maybe the fabric has some sort of sizing that I'm sensitive to, and maybe that helped a bit? The size of these gloves is just about adequate. I usually wear men's size L gloves. My husband's hands are slightly larger than mine and I don't think he can fit in there. Around the "wrist" is an elastic band that is obviously not cotton ("Wrist" is in quotes because the elastic around the bottom of my arm would be better on the wrist itself, but the gloves wouldn't long enough). And the elastic is sewn inside so it fits my skin perfectly. It's annoying. I turned the pair inside out, removed the stitching and elastic from the skin, and that reduced the itching. I don't know if they will sleep comfortably in it.
