Far Away Temperatures / Not Suitable for Frying!

I've had mixed experiences with this induction hob. Temperature mode is useless as it warms up far from what the display shows. For the test I used a good quality enamelled cast iron pan with a base the same size as the white griddle on the hob, so this should give the most accurate results. I have cooked red beans and rice with sausage, which takes some time over low heat to cook. I set the temp setting to 300 Fahrenheit and after it had been running for about 20 minutes, I used a digital thermometer to check the temp, immersed about halfway into the liquid right in the middle. The temperature was only 206 degrees. I suspected this before since the egg cooking temperature doesn't even cook the egg. This appliance is not suitable for frying. With about 2 inches of oil, the temperature will not exceed 290 degrees (F). French fries and potatoes should be fried at 375 degrees. This hob just can't do it and it takes 20-30 minutes to get to 290. It turns off (E1) if you try to use a power level above 7. I'm still looking for a better cooking alternative. That's not an option, and if that's typical of all induction cooktops, then induction isn't for me.

Pros
  • Great design
Cons
  • Socket required
