The shelves in our basement entrance are perfect for their purpose. Just enough space and sturdy enough to hold all my aquarium essentials. The main thing I don't like is that the shelves themselves appear upside down. There is a small ledge (1-1.5 inches) around each shelf that goes down around the shelf in other sets I've purchased. On them it faces up, so items that might be a bit large for a shelf don't lie flat and stick out over the edge, but are tilted a bit. If they require a flat base, these shelves may not be for you. The instructions don't make this clear so it was a bit confusing to put together at first. However, that day and the next after I ordered them, the price dropped $3 and change. It's always annoying.
