You would think letter-size paper would fit the advertised 8.6-inch internal depth. However, this is the MAXIMUM depth in the hole. It tapers to about 8.3 inches and then another about 1/2 inch less than the bottom rounded edges. You're only talking about a small amount. The quality is typical of SentrySafe, just about adequate. Of course it's not a safe. The list price is ridiculous but depending on Revain the cost can be ok or low. I also hate the key holding design. I have an older SentrySafe that doesn't hold keys. I'll keep it as long as I have the papers in fold down the middle to fit.
