I have worked as a technician and engineer in the aerospace, materials research, air quality (instrument) and nuclear industries. I am quite critical of technical devices and tools. I bought this printer for the introductory price and a $90 coupon. I have 6 3D printers so this coupon was the key reason for my purchase. The experience with this out-of-the-box printer is pretty good as it only requires 4 screws and one platform leveling for the first print. I skipped the print files included on the micro SD card, moved the "Fokoos" (Cura) machine to the latest version of Cura 4.8, and cut the Benchy STL test file. The print came out very well, excellent even - one of the best I've printed with so little adjustment. Then came the disappointment. As I checked the V-wheels that support the build platform, I noticed that Fokoos used 4 V-wheels at the base of the V-grooves instead of 8 as in my Mingda D2, with 4 of them on eccentric spacers. And the eccentric washers used to adjust the contact force of the V-wheel with the rails were too tight. So dense that Delrin plastic powder was already piling up from under the wheels. I did my best to adjust the eccentric spacers. I set them to the lowest possible downforce, but even then the wheel downforce was too high. After cleaning the wheels from the crumbling Delrin plastic and printing a few more small models, I checked the wheels. To my not-so-unexpected disappointment, the Delrin plastic powder had already built up to the point you can see in the attached photos. This is unacceptable and probably a problem with all these fokoos printers. Eventually, the wheels lose contact with the top V-groove of the V-groove, resulting in unreliable, poor print quality with incremental Z-axis changes. However, this printer has some great designs. PRO: Very easy to assemble printer. MKS (Robin I think) 32-bit open source board (now cheaper than most 8-bit legacy boards). Nice 3.5 inch MKS TFT. A decent volcano style heater block and a good "old school" straight extruder. Pretty efficient fan. An OK Ultrabase build plate inferior to my three Anycubic printers with real Ultrabase build platforms. Fairly quiet operation apart from moderately noisy fans. Clean cable routing with ribbon cables and spare cables (how long does it last(?). Fairly fast and stable bed and hot end heating. Z-axis limit switch. CONS: (Big - why lower rating) 4V only - slotted wheels, with poor adjustment range - leads to premature wear of Delrin plastic (?) WLAN daughterboard without implementing WLAN function Using a micro SD slot leads to accelerated wear of the internal SD socket pins Conclusion: fix the slotted V-wheel -4 wheel design, upgrade to polycarbonate wheels with sealed bearings Attach the wheels, implement Wi-Fi, upgrade to a full-size SD slot, and Fokoos is a real value .
