The basket can be deep or shallow so it can hold many items or serve as a tray. It takes some effort to change the depth, but it also keeps the depth you choose. The plastic is smooth and comfortable to handle. Note that the bottom of the basket is smaller than the top of the basket when fully open. I wanted to use this basket to carry a small piece of medical equipment from room to room and then fold down the sides for handling. This works very well.
