The device is a new approach to spiral processing - slices a thin layer of vegetables into leaves or thin strips, depending on which blade you will be using. There can be quite wide streaks depending on the type of fruit or veg you are using. It does a good job of cooking a mostly continuous leaf vegetable. It's easy to assemble and relatively easy to swap out the blades or take apart for cleaning. It's quite bulky and I was disappointed to learn that I can't store it in the retail packaging as once the handle is attached it cannot be removed and will not fit back in the box with the handle attached. It has a very bizarre shape and is quite difficult to store. On the other hand, all the blades fit into the base for storage, so at least you don't have to worry about them getting separated and lost. While the device is very efficient at slicing, it can be cumbersome to use, as it has to be attached to the table with a suction cup (it's huge and covers most of the floor) and if your surfaces aren't perfectly glassy it just won't stay in place. The instructions suggest using a glass cutting board or something to steady it. I felt completely safe from cuts using the cutter, the blades are positioned so they don't get in the way during use, but you do need to be careful when washing. Blades as they have sharp edges.
