. I use Efa brand pearls which only need to be boiled for 5-10 minutes and it goes through the straw. If I left the tapioca pearls in the sugar solution for too long (I forgot about them for about 4 hours!), they were a bit harder to suck up the straw, but still doable. I bought these because I was uncomfortable with how much rubbish I was creating with my daily tea and when my daughter started asking for this too, the rubbish I was throwing out doubled. I bought tall, straight-sided Mason jars and leak-proof plastic lids. I measured these straws and drilled holes in the plastic lids to accommodate them and now we have 10 perfectly reusable travel mugs for our pearl milk teas!
