I was not impressed with this charger

The first thing I noticed was the very short power cord. It's only a few inches long and over 3 feet long, so I couldn't put the charger on my desk. The instructions are poor. When I connected the charger, I was expecting a backlit display like the photos. The display has no backlight. The instructions are terrible and give very little information. As far as I can tell the steps are to put the battery in slot 1-4. Press the button on the slot where you installed the battery. Select [Charge/Discharge/Discharge Refresh/Check Charge] mode. Press Current [toggle between 200/500/700/1000mA]. You can also press the Display button, which toggles the display for the selected slot by [Charging Current/Cell Voltage/mAh Charged into Battery/Charging Time]. First, the firmware appears to be buggy. When I pressed the current, the current doesn't always change. When I press the display, the display does not always change. It seems that you need to change the current setting while the display is flashing, but you have to wait until it stops flashing to change the display. Sometimes I had to remove and reinstall the battery before it responded. Sometimes I had to turn the charger off and on again before it responded to commands. I installed 4 batteries that were used in the kit [same year and condition] and all 4 were charged to different voltages [1.397v, 1.396v, 1.337v, 1.298v]. AT]. Two of the batteries finished charging fairly quickly and said "full" while the other two took 1:40 to charge and got very hot, so I stopped the charge cycle. I let them cool down and resumed charging and they charged normally without getting hot. Not sure why they got hot the first time. All 4 were charged at 1A, which is within acceptable battery charge rates [they can be charged up to 1.8A]. Based on my experience with this device, I would not charge batteries unattended on this charger. There are much better chargers out there. I have two that don't have all the settings and digital displays that this unit has, but they charge the batteries better and faster without overheating.

Pros
  • Everything is fine!
Cons
  • Expensive
