lanterns are hard for me to please. I wanted something for a shady part of my garden that creates atmosphere but turns on automatically, requires no maintenance and doesn't fill up with water and insects. These lanterns have been out on the street since early May and I just brought them in to refresh the batteries. We've had some of the heaviest rains in Virginia history over the past few months, but these lanterns worked with just a small amount of water in the inner candle well and a few bugs (how they get into these things is a mystery). !). You can open the base by removing 3 screws, so after a quick swipe it's ready to use again. In the photo there is one straight from the yard - there is no mold, there is very little water in it. The batteries in the base were dry. Good buy!
