This WD My Passport Ultra 4TB drive claims to be made of metal. I do not think so. When I tap it with my fingernail, it pops like plastic. Metal, especially thin metal like this, would produce a higher pitched sound. I almost want to hack it to finally prove it's not metal. It has metallic paint but that seems to be it. Unfortunately, it seems less durable than the previous generation WD My Passport 4TB that I also own. I have one with an interesting shape of blinds around the perimeter. That seems better than this one to me. They're both light in the small size and I don't intend to kick them but I plan to move them around a lot, so I'm a little disappointed that I was dragged into this new "metal" ultra for $20 more, even though it may have worse durability than the previous one. Five stars for performance, three stars for lying about the metal's durability. And a black eye for the honesty of the WD brand.
