This is more than just an ELF OBDII scanner. It scans multiple car systems, runs some component tests, tests ABS, airbag system, transmission and the usual OBDII scan. I used this on my 2016 Mazda 6 and it confirmed that there were no active or pending MIL codes. I looked around the menu system, decided on Mazda and found that you can even read the data streams of different components. I was even able to measure the weight of the passenger seat. Updating the tool is not easy if you follow the instructions. I ended up using a micro sd card (they call it a tiff card) and running the updater to get the current info of all the brands it covers onto the micro sd card and then the card to the scanner moved. I then plugged it into the OBDII port, started the engine and used the tool for a few things e.g. B. checking for pending (but not yet active) error codes. Aside from the upgrade and some misunderstandings on my part about how the upgrade process works, it worked fine. Inside the box is a red and black key that might surprise you. This is a microSD to USB adapter. I didn't use it and only then did I realize what it was for. If you see a menu in the updater asking for USB or TIFF, you will be asked where to find the micro SD card. I put it in my laptop's micro SD card slot, but if you don't have one you can put the card in a USB adapter and select USB. At first I thought USB meant just plugging the scanner in via USB and the updater failed. Do not, under any circumstances, connect the device to a USB port on a PC unless you are using it for charging. I give it 5 stars because once you've gone through the update and download of all selected car brands you're interested in (if you want the process to be really fast), it's not hard to get used to using it. It will do far more than the average handyman would ever need. When new cars come out you can go back and use the update tool to download any new ones if you want to keep it up to date, but most of us only need two or three brands on the map you paste into the tool. They have a 15-month hardware warranty and lifetime software updates.
