Both parts of the gearbox MUST be replaced for this to work. This means you will also need to replace the clear plastic gear on the base. If you don't they will get chewed up as other reviews indicate. How do I know? Because it happened to me. I found another review that mentions that both the base gears and the gears on the attachments need to be changed to get the best results. Replacing the base gear is a bit tricky as you will need a small flathead screwdriver to insert through the underside of the base. to prevent the motor from turning when you unscrew the clean gear (left-hand thread, btw). Oh yeah, make sure you unplug the base before messing around with the screwdriver.
