This item worked great with OTA TV sound. It converted the coaxial digital audio to the optical output my surround sound system needs. However, I found that audio coming in via the HDMI input (from my ROKU player) does not go through the digital coax output. Apparently, this is a feature of many TVs. I purchased this item to use surround sound with my ROKU for my old TV and surround sound system, but since it didn't play sound from ROKU (the TV's fault, not the converter) I decided to to return him. If you're using a Smart TV that already has built-in streaming capabilities,
