I usually just pick up an apple and eat it. But that usually means my hand keeps getting juicier. It's also not good for situations where you want to share the apple with other people, or perhaps dip slices of apple in something like honey or caramel. You can just cut the apple with a knife, but there is a quicker and easier way. Just click once, done. I also appreciate how comfortable it is to use compared to a similar food slicer I had as a kid. Large handles are much more comfortable for the hands. The only downside I see is that cleaning can be a bit of a hassle if you don't have a dishwasher. If you think you're going to use this often enough then it's a worthwhile purchase.
