I recently dropped my PS4 Slim and since then the optical drive has dropped out a few times as if trying to read the disc but not create t then said that the disk is not recognized. I didn't mind since most of my games are digital, but recently I decided this was going to be a fun weekend project. I watched a tutorial on possible fixes so I took the PS4 case apart and tried cleaning the laser, flexing the cover and wiping/lubricating the mechanical drive but none of that worked so I went for decided as a last resort replacing the optical drive. As I had already started disassembling the PS4 there were only a few components left to remove the optical drive so I took it apart and got the model number (important step, you can't guess what model of drive you will have! ). This replacement works great. Things to note when considering this: 1) You will need to disassemble your PS4 into an empty shell. The last screw to remove the optical drive is under the motherboard, so you have to unscrew everything to remove the optical drive. Not for the faint of heart, but doable2) This is a long and delicate procedure. Take photos as you go because there are LOTS of screws and tiny components to take out and put back in and you don't want to lose track of them! Do not pull on wires or fixtures; Be especially careful with the Wi-Fi antenna on the back of the power adapter, as it is screwed into a thin plastic hole that can break. Don't forget to remove the 4 rubber feet from the corners of the existing drive and install them on the new one. You will need the Security Torx 8 or 9 screwdriver that is currently included and a Phillips 00/000 Phillips screwdriver. Screwdriver (not included, but you probably have one). It wouldn't hurt to have some thermal paste handy since you'll be removing the heatsink from the APU anyway, but it's not necessary. For connector cables (cables with 2 wires with a head), try a gentle but firm pull first and only switch to pliers if that doesn't work. However, definitely don't use pliers on ribbon cables once you've made it this far in sight, hold on. I believe in you :) I removed the asterisk, since it is more difficult to insert a disk with this drive than with a regular one, but there are no problems with extracting / reading at all. , they include a pry tool and thermal grease. I didn't even notice because I had these things ready, but they really do give you everything you need to open up your PS4. Great kit
