Great product, terrible installation

On paper this product has a lot of potential. However, it seems that Comcast did not have a testing and release plan to support this product and train their support team. Also, Arris doesn't care what Comcast does or says about this product. They don't even talk to each other. I bought the device because Comcast support suggested that the device is supported as described on Comcast's mydeviceinfo webpage. I had many problems trying to install the device. Problem #1: The block was not activated. Comcast support suggested that this device is not included in their activation app and is therefore not supported. They recommended I return the device and buy a Netgear modem. I called Arris and they said the device was designed specifically for Comcast and there was nothing they could do to help me install the device. I went to the local Comcast office and opened a service call to have someone come to my house and install the product. The service technician came to my house and spent 3 hours fixing the problem. He exacerbated the problem to management. The next day he called me back and said the activation issue was resolved and the installation/activation process could begin. This time the activation completed automatically as expected. Internet and telephone worked perfectly. However, when I called support to let them know I had done it, they encountered a different issue. Problem #2: The new modem cannot be added to my account. As a result, the support rep asked me to change it and install a Comcast modem. I returned to the local Comcast office to escalate the issue again. The store manager and onsite technicians were just as confused as I was because they couldn't figure out why the device couldn't be added to my account. ready to support it. As a result, they loaned me a modem for free until the problem was fixed. Two weeks later I called support and a support rep worked with me and I was able to activate the device and add it to my account. . This completes the installation. Problem #3: Wi-Fi SSID only has one name for 2G and 5G channels. As a result, when testing, you don't know what bitrate to expect. Problem #4: The Wi-Fi transfer rate is 10-40Mbps when the client is close to the router. The speed drops sharply to 2-10 Mbps when the laptop is 40 or 50 feet away. Workaround: Install a TP-Link router in access point mode. So I'm using the WiFi SSID provided by the router to communicate. This solved both problems 3 and 4. Because the tp ink router provides two SSIDs, one for 2G and the other for 5G. This way I can choose which frequency I want to use. In addition, the problem with the WLAN range has been fixed. The 2G test shows stable 40-50 Mbps. The 5G test shows a stable speed of 115-140 Mbps. Next steps: Test with tp-link router in AP mode for a week. I will call Arris to see what they can do to resolve issues 3 and 4. Do the SSID, RF power and channel number need to be changed to match the communication settings to solve problems? Summary: This new modem/gateway from Arris has a lot of potential on paper. However, it does not appear to have been tested before handing it over to the customer. Also, the Comcast support team was unprepared to support this device. As a result, I will not recommend this device to any friend or family.
