These are good filters when there is rust or other scale in the water system. While I can't confirm the accuracy of the claimed 1 micron size, I can report that they definitely pick up more sediment than paper types advertised as 10 or 20 microns. When used with a clear filter housing you have the ability to see how much and how quickly sediment is accumulating and this will help you determine when it needs to be replaced. The only real downside to using a 1 micron filter is that if you have a lot of buildup in your system, you will need to change filters more frequently. With our system on a private well, you can start to see a change in flow when you use the shower, so I usually decide when to change. I generally prefer them over 10 microns for the main point of entry because they pull a lot more "garbage" out of the water.
