To work you must press the plates together to allow the gears to work to open and close the welds on the gear plates. Bad to say, at best I had to weld both plates back and the bolt that sits in the center of the gear was loosening all the time until I tightened the red lock and still haven't gotten back to at least say that I would not recommend this tool for commercial use or even home use You don't want to fix your tools the second time you use them after bending them the first time
