I bought this cable to use with my 2005 Buell XB9R and ECMSpy in hopes of simplifying maintenance (like resetting TPS and diagnostics). This cable is as described (Windows installs the drivers and it works). MY EXPERIENCE: I found it difficult to fit this connector into a connector on a bike. When I first tried to use it, ECMSpy wouldn't connect and said there was a communication error (I wish it would tell me to try selecting a different ECM option). I thought that this connector, like many others, had the transmit and receive wires reversed. I found that I couldn't remove the connector by hand as it was too tight. After many attempts, help from others, and growing tired, I grabbed a pair of pliers to remove the connector. I damaged the connector by removing it and once it was disconnected I have no regrets as it just kind of came loose (I didn't use a ton of clamping force, the connector just got damaged as it's just plastic ). . I swapped the wires and decided to remove the orange rubber grommet as well, hoping it would be easier to insert and remove. Removing the spacer changed everything in the world (sorry the clamp release pin broke but not the part holding the two halves together). Swapping cables didn't help, it still doesn't connect. I decided to return the wires to their original position just in case I didn't have a good fit with the rubber pad installed. Replacing the cables with factory ones (as they were when they sent it to me) didn't help at first. Work. It turned out that the problem was not in the connector but in ECMSpy. I had to choose the wrong ECM which I thought I had. I bought from the dealer and installed a factory Buell Race ECU shortly after buying the bike, but ECMSpy wanted me to select the stock ECU (whether the software was wrong or the dealer cheated me. I don't know). After that, ECMSpy worked as expected. CONSTRUCTION: That's why I only gave the cable three stars. The USB-to-Serial part of the connector is ok and the car connector pinout is correct. This is a plug and play connection. The USB end is pretty standard and I haven't had any issues with it. The car plug could be a bit more durable as I expect it to put significantly more force on it to do the same damage as me, but I'm not surprised either (maybe I can find that plug somewhere and replace the outer gray shell). As mentioned, plugging and unplugging a plug when it arrives is difficult to say the least (unplugging is more than plugging). I would recommend anyone buying this cable to remove the blue cap on the front panel, remove the orange rubber grommet and put the cap back on. Unless the cable is very wet or you plan to leave it installed, this spacer is not needed. The cable looks like it came with a USB connector and is quite long (5-6 feet). These cable types usually have a small/thin wire. The wire on a bike is much larger (less than AWG) and more durable. I can't imagine ever seeing an automotive connector of this type with a strain relief, so it is. The wires are not notched and are soldered fairly well to the pins, so unless you hold the cable with your hand instead of the connector or take the connector apart it should last a while. SUMMARY: This connector is too tight and I recommend removing the orange rubber grommet before even attempting to use it. If you're using it with ECMSpy, make sure you've tried all the ECM options and make sure your ECM is supported before tearing it apart and swapping the cables (my cable was connected correctly, but it's quite easy, so not). big problem).
