Review on πŸ”ͺ 32 Inch Roman Carbide Cutter - DC1098 by Dale Toth

Revainrating 2 out of 5

Too short shank works best with router bits

Unfortunately I spent a lot of money on a grooving router bit that just wasn't long enough to get a groove in the wood that I was working with, I was only able to clamp the shank 1/4" with a collet on my router and table combo. I just couldn't go any further with the depth adjustment on my router/table to get the shaft further into the collet. As it is, I tried covering it with a wooden box I had. Two seconds after the rotation, the cutter jumped out of the router. A good hold in my box when planing. Can you tell it's dangerous? See, I'll be the first to admit that I'm by no means an expert or maybe even a novice woodcarver, but an extra 1/4 on the shank would at least make this cutting job doable. It's useless to me.

Pros
  • 1/4" shank diameter
Cons
  • Cord is shorter than other router bits
