This yarn was broken in the skein, it is not uncommon for the yarn to be wrapped incorrectly with knots and skeins and even broken yarn. Unusually, for a light strand, it has to be 5 ounces. Skein, when I got the yarn it was a very wobbly thin skein, I didn't think to weigh it until I was about to skein it and the inside was cut and knotted. It was almost 2 ounces off their 5 ounce ball. I've never had yarn that wasn't in the right amount in 30 years. Was it a return?
