So fun, the kids love it. You can race one car and watch it spin, race multiple cars, and enter new cars as a contest to see them crash. The first thing the kids will do, of course, is to get as many cars on the track as possible. The advantage of Hot Wheels is that you can use any of your cars on the track. The problem with Hot Wheels has always been the propulsion β the cars aren't motorized, they're a step away from clockwork cars, but running them on tracks is something every kid wants to do. And the previous generation of "Stomp" tracks don't quite fit, you need something motorized. It has a motorized "booster" but has the following problems: (1) Hot Wheels "boosters" require 4 D batteries. I hate D batteries, I think most people do. They run out fast, rechargeable Ds are hard to find, they don't fit my charger, some stores don't have them. I'd rather put 8 AA batteries in or be able to plug them in. (2) The track is non-extendable and quite small. I suppose it could theoretically be extended but that would be difficult, it really is built to work together in this configuration. If you don't have enough space or you have very small children, then everything is fine. And he understands easily. (3) The playing time is too short. Each "round" equals 10 seconds. When you introduce new cars for races and crashes, it's all over in 10-20 seconds. (4) The asking price ($50) is a problem for me for several reasons: First, you can get a much bigger slot machine. The race kit is cheaper (in the $30-$40 range). You can usually double the size of your slot machine track before having to change the power supply. Cars aren't as fun as Hot Wheels cars because they can't be played off-track and are generally not as cool as Hot Wheels cars. But they're faster, more attractive, have a more customizable track system, and many benefits. So if you want a Hot Wheels track and you have $50, there are many better tracks for the same price - Hot Wheels Criss Cross Crash, Hot Wheels Spin Storm Track and perhaps the best deal, Hot Wheels Track Builder Unlimited Ultra (expandable ) . Conclusion: I like the set very much. Have fun. The kids love it. If it were cheaper I would give it a solid 4-5 stars. But if I could spend $50 and wanted a track, for the racing fan, I would get the slot machine track, and for the Hot Wheels fan, I would get the Hot Wheels Track Builder Unlimited Ultra.
