quick and easy way to charge your car, with some limitations

Update 07/19/2021: downgraded to 2 stars. The switch trips too often for no reason. You can't rely on him. I can't leave the car charging overnight because it probably won't be ready in the morning. I have to charge during the day or in the evening and constantly check whether the car has reported a power failure. Update 07/05/2021: Downgraded to 3 stars. I had no problems with this device until yesterday when I came back from a trip with only 10% battery left and needed to be charged overnight for about 12 hours the next day. As I found out the next morning, after about 6 hours of charging, Splitvolt turned off its own switch. There was nothing to justify, I have a Grizzle e charger that regulates the current very precisely at 23.7A. That means you can't rely on Splitvolt to do its job, you can't get your car full in the morning before your next trip. It is also bad for the car when there is a sudden charging error. Previous Review: If you don't have a dedicated NEMA 14-50 installation in your home or don't want to spend thousands on a new installation, this is an easy way to hook up a dryer line to charge your car. Pros: - Cheap and easy. Cons: - You have to limit charging to 24A. Chances are your EVSE is rated for 30A or more, which could be a problem. I tested this splitter, it runs at 30A for a few hours and then trips the circuit breaker. So it's a win-win situation. You either need a separate EVSE with 24A current draw, or you can change the current in the car - it's not UL listed, which means the city doesn't issue a permit, and if there's a discount you don't get it, and most electricians will find out refuse to install it. You're on your own.

Pros
  • Robust design
Cons
  • Useless features
