Just put them on for a weekend in the snow, sledding in cheap winter boots and snowboarding the next in snowboard boots. The weather fluctuated between 30 and 55 degrees. These socks were perfect for the weather. I thought they were too thin to keep warm so I brought extra socks just in case but they were fine. The thinness did add extra room in my winter boots, but not enough to cause any problems. I haven't had any problems with them puckering in the wash like everyone else has. They come almost to the calf (I'm a 5'7" female). I'll be skiing again in a few weeks so I'll update my review if anything changes, but I think they're reliable. Sock for moderate temperatures.
