My son is 4.75 and has several Hot Wheels Track Builder parts. He likes to create new track layouts to scale down his cars - sometimes for his city, and sometimes he likes to end up building a big bunch of cars. The really nice thing about this part is that it can be used as a standalone stunt track for Hot Wheels cars, or you can forgo the bucket it ends up tipping into and let the cars continue the track to another part. This piece talks about ages 6 to 12, and honestly I agree for two reasons: assembly and use afterward. First the assembly: My son is in the do-it-yourself phase, but he cannot yet follow the instructions in the booklet on his own. We had to help assemble the main part with the loops and attach a launch part to each (one has a launch point with a piston that you smash to get the car through the loop) and at the opposite end there is a ramp and bucket, to flip the car after coming out of the second cycle. Once these things are put together, he can unhook the beginning or ending pieces and connect other parts of the track. starts the reaction. The trigger needs to be pressed very hard - we've found that it's best to press it with your fist. He really isn't strong enough to do it all the time. If you don't hit hard enough, the car won't accelerate with enough force to go through the loops. My son has tons of Hot Wheels cars and always loves getting a new one so it's great that there is a vehicle in this set. My son learned that only the ones that look like the machine that comes with this set will work for loops. Some of the vehicles he has are too wide and some are too heavy and they fall over without completing the circle. Another thing I find negative is the size. The item has a hinge so it can be folded thinner for storage, but still takes up a lot of space. My son's bedroom is slowly being taken over by Hot Wheels and once built it will be bigger. All in all, it's a fun trick that can get boring if you don't have another Hot Wheels track to add it to. If you can put it on the middle and end of other parts, it should make the car chain more diversified. Just be aware that unless they are approaching the upper age limit for this toy, you will likely be helping your child build the circuit.
