This review is about the Pro Single Channel Timer used in conjunction with an LED aquarium light. This is a light timer/controller. Please note that for the purpose of this review I have only had experience with NICREW lighting fixtures so far. This will likely work with other manufacturers' LED lights, but I can't tell firsthand, so my experience reported here is based on using a NICREW timer with a NICREW light. I typically use electromechanical timers (the round dial type where you set the on and off times with little tabs) in my aquariums. As I switched to LED lights and needed a different timer I decided to give it a try and am very happy with it. First, it was very affordable and not much more expensive than the mechanical/electric rotating light timers I've used in the past. Second, it's very small and very light, so it takes up a lot less space than a traditional timer, and can easily be hidden behind a cabinet or tank, which is important because the clock is always shown on a red LED display, so when it's used in the bedroom or other places where you don't need a bright clock display, being able to hide it behind something is a plus. On the other hand, if you need a clock display in the room, this doubles as long as you don't mind reading Militra time (24-hour format) (e.g. 1:30 is displayed as 1:30). So far this has worked as advertised and I can zoom in and out on the light. Not only do I think it's a little less harsh on the fish, but also a little less harsh on me in one of my aquariums in my bedroom. A few things to watch out for. First, when dimming the LED, it is very difficult to see brighter levels. also, and in my opinion, 100% to about 50% doesn't look much different. Likewise, LEDs cannot go to zero, but after a certain level they stop conducting current and turn off. I'm not sure where the light goes out but I don't think when it goes from 1% to 0% it's probably something like 5% when it goes out so there's a slight jump from the light Second, the 30 minute and 15 minute dimming periods are full brightness to off or off to full brightness, and it's really just a weird way of saying you can set the dimming to 1% every 9 seconds (for a 15- minute power failure). minutes) or 1% every 18 seconds (for a 30 minute setting). This means you don't get a 30 minute transition for all the changes you specify, just a fixed rate of change (in other words, if you change the light output by 1%, it takes either 9 seconds or 18 seconds, not 15 minutes). or 30m). When I first set it up, I turned it off and went from 100% to OFF in 30 minutes from 11pm. But because of the first thing above, it seemed to me that the first 15 didn't really matter as I couldn't really perceive the blackout until it went below 50%. Also, the last 5 minutes or so happen more suddenly than I'd like. So here's what I did. I switched it from 100% to 50% starting at 10:45pm, so at 11:00pm it's 50%. Then I hold this brightness for 10 minutes. I then set it to go from 50% to 20% at 11:10pm which means on a 30 minute setting (30% x 18 seconds) it would take 9 minutes so it is now 20% at 11:19 p.m. Since it only takes 6 minutes to go from 20% to zero, I keep it at 20% for five minutes and then start the 20% discount ending at 11:30am. Sounds complicated, but basically I think it gives a much more realistic blackout between 11pm and 11:30pm than just 100-0 from 11pm. For this reason, this new model with 6 temporary settings is much better than the original version that only had 2. I originally only installed two but ended up using 4 so glad I got the newer version. They still sell the old version here, but for the same price, so there's no reason not to buy a newer one. I have a few other tanks I want to do this with, so I'm going to buy a few more of these. So not only would I buy it again, I will buy it again twice.
