I'm glad this item is exactly what I was hoping for. I needed something to cover my head but not a hat (which isn't fleece) on windy days so I could step out of my car into a store or office building and my hair wasn't completely disheveled. I wanted it to be a bit warm but not heavy like I would need for a longer walk on a winter day. I also didn't want it to look out of place on a sunny fall day with moderate temperatures. But I can also occasionally use it for long walks (on days that are not too cold). I love the navy blue I ordered as it goes well with many casual outfits including blue jeans. As for the length of the strings, they are long enough for me to drape over my shoulders and about 7 inches falling down my back, enough to tie around my neck to secure when needed. This is a practical, simple item, but well designed and beautifully sewn.
