Review on IMKEY Apple Certified 6.5 Feet 30-Pin to USB Sync and Charging Cable - Gray for iPhone 4 / 4S, iPhone 3G / 3GS, iPad 1/2 / 3, iPod by Reed Nuttbrock

Rating of this cable is a balance of good and bad making a rating misleading. The cable is well made, sturdy and the connector is solid and fits snugly into two of my devices, the iPhone 4S and the iPad 2. Of course, the 2.5 foot length is very convenient. This item is advertised as being compatible with both. Unfortunately this is not the case. It works well with an iPhone 4S for charging and a USB connection to a computer, but will not charge an iPad 2. It will also not register with an iPad 2 when connected to a computer via USB. I've tried this with several different charging adapters and two different USB ports on two different computers with the same results. Four other brands of cables, including two genuine Apple cables and three non-genuine cables, work great with both devices. I have requested a return of goods but have not yet made a final decision on whether or not to do so. Love the cable, in fact, out of the five different brands of cable I've used with these devices, this seems to be the most durable with the best connector. I've had this cable for about a month now, so I can't comment on its durability - a different manufacturer's cable worked fine for a year and then died, a different manufacturer's cable worked fine for two years and then died, while Apple's two many year old original cables still work, although the insulating outer shell on one of them has started to delaminate/tear in multiple places. The tape secures it, but it's odd that the sleeve is so tired on one of them. In any case, the design of this IMKEY cable suggests that it will not suffer the same failure. I might have kept it for its overall quality, if only for one device. If it would also work with the iPad 2, it would have earned 5 stars. The manufacturer/supplier must either remove the iPad 2 compatibility link from their add-on or fix the issue in order for it to work. To be honest I haven't contacted tech support yet to see if this issue is permanent and if so if there is a fix maybe they will send out a replacement cable.
