Sony ICF36 radio has been with us for many years. Nice little radio with decent sound and the ability to run on AC or batteries. This served us well, but after a while the channel selector began to show signs of wear - sometimes it was difficult to select a band before tuning. In addition, two TV channels are no longer relevant (the radio is not to blame). We considered buying the ICF38, a radically more modern version, with no TV or weather channels but still with powerful sound and the ability to run on batteries or AC. Unfortunately, there were some reviews that suggested Sony had outsourced production to China and the quality had suffered as a result. Five-star ratings dropped to one star. A few years later when the bad reviews seem to have stopped we bought an ICF38. We've had him for a few months now and he seems to be doing well. The sound is just as good as its predecessor and it seems to get the job done with no issues. About four stars. Maybe Sony has solved its problems with the Chinese provider. Recommended? Not yet, but so far so good.
