This unit allowed me to capture raw video from my compact VCR and convert it to MP4 format. I'm sure Legacy Box or other similar services will at least do that. But after converting them to MP4 format, I was able to edit them in Adobe Premiere Elements, add titles, special graphics, special effects, etc. It's a personal and stylistic matter that changes with each recording. A conversion service cannot offer this. I had 77 compact cartridges. (See photo) The conversion service would have cost over $2,000. For a tenth of the cost, I could guarantee I wouldn't lose those records. The tapes have deteriorated somewhat from being stored in a hot/cold attic for up to 30 years. The VCR player, as expected, had some difficulties with the oldest ones. But Video Capture Box could handle what was provided. The user interface is simple. However, make sure you have the date function in the correct mode. If you have it enabled, it will write the current date/time to a record that may be several years old. You probably want this feature disabled. If you have old video cassettes, this is the solution.
