This gets a 3 because I have had issues with db2 filters not fitting tightly enough to the plastic container/canister/body afterwards abut the body is screwed and tightened. When raw tap water with insufficient density bypasses the filter element (db2) with a gasket on top. Below is an overview of the WHKF db2 filter cartridge and DUF unit (and a workaround): I ordered two Whirlpool WHKF DB2 filters in early 2015. I put one in and it tasted like plastic. I've found that if I let it run for a few seconds each time before adding water, most of that flavor goes away. Eventually, after a few months, I stopped noticing the taste of plastic. After some time, maybe 9 months, I started noticing the smell of chlorine. I figured the filter might fail with age. I recently replaced the filter with an ordered one. The smell of chlorine was very bad now, much worse. So I ordered a pool chlorine tester. Yes, the chlorine level was the same as straight from the tap, about 5 parts per million. The filter cartridge in the canister was not tightened enough. The tap water flowed around the filter and it wasn't because the carbon block in the filter was too dense to let waste through, which seemed to be a problem for some people as a bad batch came out of the hot tub (although based on the previous post, Whirlpool has not yet confessed to the matter). The filter cartridge was then removed and checked for proper installation. It was good. So the canister (DUF block) was tightened even more than before. This time residual chlorine was detected. So there was still a leak that bypassed the filter seals. Now I suspect it was a problem with the other filter - it was also leaking water. Maybe the plastic case is warped a bit? The gaps for these units are very narrow. Everything has to be perfect, otherwise the filter cartridges will not be tightened and water will be diverted around the filter. The solution for me was to make a gasket for the filter cartridge that attaches to the bottom gasket. The gasket was plastic and was 1/32 inch thick and the same width as the original bottom gasket. tighten on the outside of the body when the body is bolted down. Now there is no bypass water and the chlorine level is close to zero (0) ppm. There is also no unusual taste. Good to go! PS I just checked my son's chlorine levels in the same unit he installed. Ouch! It indicates low chlorine levels. It must be checked whether it also requires the built-in seal.
