The main reason for buying this rug is to protect the rug from being scratched near the tray by a very persistent cat (Matthew). Matthew is of course the hardest when it comes to cutting nails. We have 2 trays in the closet with a bath mat between them to keep the carpet from scratching underneath. The bath rug isn't heavy enough and Matthew just pushes it out of the way. When I put this rug down, none of our 3 cats would walk on it. Wavy ridges on one side, small bumps on the other. Neither side worked. They completely avoided touching the mat. After 3 days after seeing how far they are willing to go to avoid those silicone mats I put the mat on these new mats and now the cats are happy again. is working. The silicone mat is strong enough to withstand Matthew's attempts to reach the carpet. That was my main goal. Also, if he pulls the bath mat now and reaches the silicone mat, this can be a good deterrent as he doesn't like the texture of the silicone mat. The rug didn't fit the closet perfectly, but it's flexible enough to flex one side of the wall a few inches. Despite their issues with this I will actually be coming back to buy 2 more rugs for another toilet and trays.
