For my needs this was a must have item in my kitchen tool box. I love the fact that the slices come out so well. The back of the packaging shows you how to get the grabber working with odd-shaped objects like radishes. For security reasons, you can use it without being captured, but only to the point where you have to finish it for your own safety. I love the fact that it slices onions quickly and thinly, almost eliminating the tearing factor that traditional methods cause. For stews, I love the fact that I can get both stringy celery and thinly sliced carrots. Cabbage and other foods can be cut with it, but it may not suit your needs. However, I'm so happy with mine that I bought two more as gifts.
